March 2025 Stock Competition Entries!

Nothing much between the top 6. I'm off out to my beautiful lady physio who gives me exquisite pain. I guess I'm just lucky. Fingers crossed. I'll check later.

What a day to be in a trading halt with CRS.

Congratulations to @craigj, @greggles, and @Garpal Gumnut for taking out the top three spots in the March 2025 stock tipping competition! :xyxthumbs

It was a thrilling competition that went right down to the last hour as GG and greggles battled it out for second and third place with greggles just slipping ahead in the final minutes. A total of eleven entrants finished with a return of 20% or more in a month that experienced a huge market correction. An amazing feat.

craigj finished in first place with a thrilling 92.86% return with BRX. In second place was greggles who achieved an enviable 54.84% return with GG8. Rounding out the top three for March was Garpal Gumnut who selected CRS, which returned an enviable 48.28%.

Can @craigj, @greggles, and @Garpal Gumnut please contact me via PM regarding their prizes. 👍

Best of luck to all in the April competition! :)

Here are the final results for March:

Pretty good competition this month! Lots of fun towards the end with a few of us battling it out with some big fluctuations. For a few days I thought I was in with a chance then Craig suddenly came from the bottom to decisively take out first place, the rest of us battled it out and I slipped backwards to achieve the rank of first complete loser 😅😅😅

I hope a lot of the players who had good results were holding their tips, congratulations to Craig who said he is a holder.

Pretty high scoring month, which makes Marty's wooden spoon extra painful! (sorry, Marty! Hopefully it was just a speculative tip and not one of your held stocks)

Congratulations to @craigj very nice work , i liked the fact you didn't go on to (say) 150% and embarrass the rest of us 😁

good work to @greggles and @Garpal Gumnut , well done

an honorable mention @Sdajii and @TimeISmoney a 40% (+ ) finish isn't an easy feat either

my little fleabag raised an ear and shifted it's tail to finish slightly positive ( up 4% ) which was a damn shame i would have been tempted to buy below 6 cents

hopefully @MartyC and @kenny wanted to buy their picks ( CHEAP ) not much fun if you hoped their would climb to the stars ( in March )

good luck for April everyone

It's a tough game when you can't place well at 40%.

Congratulations to all the winners, you did well.

Just went to enter the April competition and the thread was closed! Was going to tip PNC but it looks like I missed out for this month! Good luck to those who are in! :)

There is so much luck involved in the monthly comp, in fact I'd go so far to say that it comprises more than 50% of one's chances of appearing in a top 3 place.

A good example was my pick CRS which went in to a trading halt on Friday after the close. The price had risen on the rumour of drilling results. So it wasn't traded yesterday. The price stayed the same as it was last Friday. Yesterday was one of the worst days for all stocks and my placing advanced at Fridays closing price as others fell on a dreadful day.

It lost 31% today.

I nearly got 2nd and ended at 3rd on the last day of the month yesterday.

So even if you know nothing or very little about stocks it is worthwhile "having a go".

It also helps to brush your teeth, wash behind your ears, wear clean knickers every day and say your prayers before going to sleep no matter what you've been up to prior should you wish to be placed.

It's an interesting mix of skill and luck. I fairly consistently perform well, sometimes get second place but rarely take first. If I wanted to I could choose stocks every month guaranteed not to place in the top 3. I think I could probably get more first place tips if I chose with a different strategy, which would reduce my average rank and the frequency of my second and third place results (when I have ranked poorly it's usually when I've chosen based on that strategy).

To win definitely requires a significant amount of luck in every case, but will in almost all cases have involved a non trivial amount of skill in selection. Luck is far more important within any particular month but if you play long term, skill is more important to the overall picture.
