I'm posting here rather than the General thread, as I'm not talking about movies in general
Someone in another thread just mentioned the movie, "The Big Short" and I realised I haven't seen it.

Tell me, what are your favourite stock market / trading movies? I've not seen many. Wall Street and Boiler Room...can't think of any others off top of my head...

Any faves?

Wolf of Wall Street?
I read the book, but missed the movie. ... or have I missed much?

My kind of uncouth humour coming next month :

WARNING : bad taste language and entendres

I watched The Death of Stalin again.
Saw it in the cinema and just now on Stan

I know if I was in that time and place, I would end up dead.

In power there are no rules.

Margin Call - its isn't strictly about stock market per se but it covers the actions of staff at an investment bank that's in trouble during the financial crisis. Fantastic performances from a great cast including Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Simon Baker, Zachary Quinto and Paul Bettany.

only got a copy of that last week and haven't watched it yet

thanks

i was expecting something a little different ( say about a whale of a trader )

Speaking of Maesto, the markets sure do perform to their own symphonies.

Apart from watching documovies re. The Great Depression, Tulip and Tech Bubbles, Enron collapse, the Financial Crisis etc, over the years, I've seen these a few times.

The Bank (Aussie movie with David Wenham)
The Big Short stars Christian Bale as the Michael Burry.

Not so much about finance per se but a great triller about an investment banker, also stars Christian Bale
American Pyscho

Rogue Trader about the Barings Bank fiasco stars Ewan McGregor

Boiler Room starring Ben Afleck and Vin Disel among others about a small time brokerage firm.

Probably watched these Wall Street movies way too many times:
Wall Street
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
The Wolf of Wall Street

went to see Maestro today. As much about Mrs Bernstein as the bloke .
and this was the first time in a movie theatre / bioscope since Covid came along. No real reason apart from just getting out of the routine.

I was never a fan of the home entertainment system and have always preferred to pay, one ticket at a time, in the immersive experience that is cinema.

My bold.
Have always liked/enjoyed going to see films. Drive ins were a special fav and agree 100%. The immersive experience either shared or alone, the cinema has always been and always will be special for this little movie buff...

Next one on the list is Killers of the FlowerMoon and yes, Maestro too...

I wish there were drive ins still!
Are there?
I think (memory getting REALLY vague here) I remember reading a small article somewhere as to why they would be absolutely no way viable anymore.

But - have things settled now? I mean, we have Netflix (I don’t) but the cinema still exists (I’ve started doing again what I did in my 20’s - I go see every new release that even remotely interests me. On my own. Small popcorn and bottle of water 😂)

Dunno. I’m just bored at the minute (forgot I posted this until I just got notice of a recent comment).
I have less than zero idea about what the costs would be (vs revenue).
But I *could* see something like that being a thing again - on a fad basis (5 or 10 years?)
You’d want the food (and probably alcohol) aspect to it as well, I’d imagine.

I don’t normally post ditties of trivial : vague day dreaming; so forgive me - I did at least start the thread 😂

Took my daughter to see latest Trolls on weekend. I secretly hope she wants to see it again 😆
I can only imagine how cool it would be to go to a drive in; buy some pizzas etc and watch some movie on a ginormous screen!

It really must’ve been fun, while it lasted? 😊

That’s what I think @Craton was really referring to 😂
Ahh, the good ol' days! Sadly, a by-gone era.
The advent of the TV, video/VCR then home entertainment systems and the internet streaming services, make it all too easy for people to stay at home.

Our local drive-in closed in 1989, next closest were in Mildura but both drive-ins had already closed so then, our closest drive -in was in Adelaide, closed Feb 2022.

Adelaide’s Last Drive-In to close in 2022 – Wallis Cinema’s Mainline Last Summer Program

Adelaide’s only remaining outdoor drive-in cinema – Mainline Drive-In at Gepps Cross – will close in February 2022.

The Wallis family, after 65 years of operating, has made the difficult decision to close the Gepps Cross Mainline Drive-In after the upcoming Summer season. Announcing the news on their Wallis Mainline Drive-in Facebook page, they are promising to make their last season a memorable one, naming it Our Last Summer – Memories That Remain.

The final movie schedule for December 2021 and January 2022 includes family friendly movies such as Clifford The Big Red Dog, Sing 2, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – 40th Anniversary and Addams Family 2. In February you can watch films such as Encanto and the original classic Grease (1978).
...and yes, going to the drive-in was most certainly a whole lot of fun and a great family social outing/gathering.

Saw my first streakers live and in the flesh (literally) at the local drive-in. A handful of blokes and sheilas doing a lap around the kiosk/snack bar before exiting stagel left to the rear of the drive-in.
The feature was Superman (Christopher Reeves) so am guessing the streakers thought they could fly. You know, 'cause they didn't have any clothes on, lol.

Very soon we'll be watching this:

We have started working on a new feature film called 'ROAD TO THE SKY 2' starring Liam Neeson.

This January filming will commence in Melbourne on ICE ROAD 2: ROAD TO THE SKY,
the sequel to the 2021 worldwide success THE ICE ROAD, starring Liam Neeson.

In ICE ROAD 2: ROAD TO THE SKY, Neeson will again play ‘big-rig’ ice road driver Mike
McCann who, honouring his late brother’s last wish, travels to Nepal to scatter his ashes
on Mt. Everest. While on a packed tour bus traversing the deadly 12,000 ft. terrain of the
infamous Road to the Sky, Mike and his mountain guide encounter a group of Nepali
mercenaries and must fight not only to save themselves and the busload of innocent
travellers, but also the local villagers’ homeland.

The story is set in Nepal, filming in Victoria.

With the van facing the wrong way. naughty times. I guess that is why the lights were turned on so quickly when the film finished. Didn't leave much time to get decent.
might help explain the decrease in natural population growth in Australia , but we needed more tax slaves anyway ( according to the politicians )
