2 hours would certainly cover the historical and statutory foundations of Australian Democracy, but it would take a few weeks to learn how individuals and organisations have bastardised it to suit their own ends.Ostensibly, the Senate was set up as house of review whereby the states could ensure that their interests were not snowballed by other states. It has become just another party political bargaining centre that barely mentions states rights. The preferential voting system was arguably setup so that the wishes of the people would be more accurately reflected. The vote harvesting and deals done on preferences have turned that idea into a complete joke. The concept that grass roots members could determine who their contestant is to represent them in an electorate has largely been ignored as frequent captains picks, factional deals, and plain bribery have taken much of these decisions out of the hands of members.I could go on, but I don't have a few spare weeks.Mick
