I had to call the NAB about a security issue, and spoke to someone who was most likely Filipino.

She may have been living in OZ, and got a job with a local NAB call centre, but I doubt it.

I struggled to understand her a few times, but then I am old an decrepit.

As one gets older, the hearing deteriorates asTelephones will not pick up sound below 300 or 400 HZ, and so for most people the lowest tones are not transmitted.

To make matters worse, as we get older, the upper level of frequency  that we can hear steadily reduces, so that the softer sounds like s, f or h tend to be indistinguishable. Women and children tend to have voices in the higher frequency ranges, so older people can hear people speaking, but struggle to hear the subtle differences with these softer consonants. You can hear, but struggle to understand.

Getting old sucks.
