We might have thought that MBS (Mohammad bin Salman) might change Saudi Arabia for the better, but alas, he is molded with the same barbaric DNA as his predecessors.

Flying in a hit squad of 15 men from Saudi to interrogate, murder (by Salah Muhammad al-Tubaigy) and clean up a critic (in another country, Turkey) is what a coward is. Someone who is this young and insecure, to rule a country like S.A. is scary (not saying the USA or China or Russia haven't done similar in the past).

We can only hope that companies which are in the renewables sphere (such as Tesla, and solar technologies) gain traction and really take off, the sooner the world can wean itself off it's insatiable appetite for oil, the better. But then you have LNP and Alan Jones (2GB) promoting coal like it's the gold standard (what a bunch of muppets).

As usual, nothing will come of this because the USA will continue to sell weapons to S.A. because of 'jobs'. Maybe the best thing to do would let the Middle East out this mess, themselves.

Lets not forget that Saudi Arabia are the current chairs of the UN human rights council. That's how little human rights actually matter.

Ah yes, but it's representative of the inclusive policies of the West so that no minority group , no matter how much oil they have, will be left out of the decision making process.

Better be careful, this may be deemed a racist thread by some.

I'm already offended by this overt display of hate towards a legitimate sovereign state and great friend of the Bush family. Actually I'm so distraught I think I need a cup of Bushells, a Bex and lay down.

It's not DNA, it's absolute power.

But apparently, with $110B, Trump is seeing "rouge killers" offing mild critics of his Majesty. :xyxthumbs

Trump weren't lying when he said that without US backing, the Saudis will be out of power in two weeks. So why befriending these rouges?

Oil is good. The money that flows into SA gets funnelled out of SA and into US banks, corporations... that's also good. The weapons and arms the US (not at all forces them to buy) is also good. The strategic position also good. A scary looking people with strange religion (that dare worship the same God and the same prophets of Christianity and Judaism) looks convincingly be in need of democracy and Christian value...

It's not easy to find such a colony my friend.

Saudi Arabia, according to a principal US post-WWII planner, represents the most stupendous source of wealth in the history of empire.

See what you get when you fight fascists and evil doers? The whole world and most of its riches.

Though the US might be losing grip on the Korean Peninsular. Apparently South Korea's president doesn't realise what Trump knows: that they cannot do anything without the US saying so.

Can't go around making peace and ending sanctions against your own neighbour dude.

With these moves, you can bet there are plans in store to set a devastating example to all colonies and vassals.

Looks like the ABC has also jumped on board with this story....

Jamal Khashoggi's apparent murder would be truly
unbelievable if it wasn't 2018

The story of the gruesome murder of Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi is horrifying to say the least.

But what will be even worse is the perpetrators getting away with it. Right now, that looks more likely than not.

And with that statement, the US President planted a strategic seed of doubt about the guilt of his allies in the Saudi Government and royal family and their apparent involvement (per Turkish and notably US intelligence) in what appears to be a cold-blooded murder.

Did the Saudis do it? It remains an allegation, but if the truth is to come out it needs a full, independent investigation. Right now, that's not happening.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo popped over to Riyadh and had a cheerful meeting with the royals.

When he emerged, a reporter asked, "Did they say that Khashoggi was alive or dead?"

He replied, "I don't want to talk about any of the facts. They didn't want to either in that they want to have the opportunity to conduct this investigation in a thorough way."

Putin and Kim have done similar, or worse really. They put large segments of the public in foreign countries at risk.

This latest isn't that surprising. But I'm glad there's a light shining on what use to be hidden from the public.

Coal has environmental problems most definitely but it does not have the war / national security and human rights implications that oil has. Not by a long shot.

If the choice is oil or solar then I'll take solar.

If the choice is oil or coal then I'll take coal for sure. It's bad in far fewer ways.

Great discussion on the US/SA relation. Some historical context and current development.

Saudi suspect in Khashoggi case ‘dies in car accident’: Report

Turkish newspaper reported on Oct. 18 that one of the suspects involved in the disappearance of Saudi writer JamalKhashoggi died in a “suspicious car accident” in Riyadh.

Mashal Saad al-Bostani, a 31-year-old lieutenant of the Saudi Royal Air Forces, was among the 15 suspects who arrived and left Turkey on Oct. 2 after going to Saudi Arabia’s Istanbul consulate when Khashoggi visited there, according to daily Yeni Şafak.

The newspaper said sources did not release any details about the traffic accident in Riyadh and Bostani’s role in the “murder” was not yet clear.

Daily Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi claimed on Oct. 18 that Saudi Arabia’s Istanbul consul Mohammad al-Otaibi could be “the next execution” as Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman “would do anything to get rid of evidence.”

Saudi Arabia claims Khashoggi was killed in a fight, contrary to other accounts
  • Saudi Arabia says dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi died in a fight at its consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
  • Its account contradicts its own earlier claim that Khashoggi left shortly after arriving the consulate.
  • Previous media reports, citing Turkish officials, said Khashoggi was tortured, killed and dismembered

  • He's not dead, he left the consulate
  • OK maybe he's dead
  • OK he's dead but we didn't do it
  • OK he's dead and we did it, but they were a rogue group of people
  • OK he's dead and we did it, but it was only because a fight broke out!
