This isn't at all true.Part of what makes a good forum good is appropriate moderation. Simply not bothering with moderation and instead using a two way block just makes the forum as pathetic as the likes of Facebook. You might remember that before the invention of the two way block (I'm not sure where it was first used, but I first saw it on Facebook), forums didn't have such a thing. Everyone could see everything, and if someone was posting problematic content the moderators would take action. Back then, forums were so much better than they are today. If the discussion is not open and visible to all, you have a flawed community model.The part about it being the way society has gone is, unfortunately, true, but as you say, that's unfortunate, and it's not essential to be part of the problem; it's far better to be part of the solution or at least resist the problem as best you can. When you acknowledge that there is a societal problem, why would you want to shrug your shoulders and be a willing part of it rather than stand as a resilient example of a piece of society doing better than the majority?
