Log on after ETRADE takeover

I think you might find that's between multiple accounts within HSBC itself. Transferring to accounts in other banks is limited to $5K per day. And to transfer funds into HSBC, you need to have the same facility in your other bank.

The $20K limit for PBay isn't very good either. With NAB I can do much higher amounts, depending on who the payee is (the ATO for example seems to be unlimited).

GP, yes you are correct. Got a reply back from my email, seems anything over $5000 will be charged at $25.

Kind regards,

SB,

One thing I've noticed with banks over the years: every time they change something, you always end up worse off - despite the rosy, feel-good letter they send you.

This is now pretty much unworkable for me. I need to be able to transfer reasonable amounts of money via the Internet. Once my introductory benefits run out (the free brokerage, etc), I'm going to have to apply for another HIN and get an ANZ account.

Mind you, if the performance of their trading site hasn't improved by then, I may be looking for another broker altogether!

GP

Sounds like E*Trade is the best broker and the only problem is bank accound coupled to trading account.

Is is good impression?

To be fair, I have to say that today E*Trade web pages loaded for me much faster all day and I got my money back.

On the negative side, since I change quite a few orders and I have few orders executed every day, and I keep my private calculations, I have to send e-mail every day, to get money re-set.

Not sure if you guys have discussed this one, but Managed Funds and Margin Lending through ANZ and E Trade do not speak to each other!!!!

I transferred my Margin Loan to ANZ from HSBC as I thought it sensible to have Stockbroking/Margin Loan with one portal. Little did I know - or were told - that my Managed Funds held under Margin Lending with HSBC would not be recognised by E Trade. The result: A Margin Call on the day my Margin Loan/Shares transferred across because the equity in the Managed Funds was not taken across as well!! After explaining the problem to them, it still is not going to work until I get a second Margin Loan organised for the Managed Funds and transfer equity from that into the shares Margin Loan so I can actually trade with it.

Rediculous.

I just found the other day that if a trade goes through at multiple prices, Etrade don't even tell you how many went through at what prices - and there's nowhere to get that information from (I rang them to ask). They just give you an average price per share instead.

Both NAB and HSBC list the individual prices and quantities, which I've always logged in my records. It seems the only way I can get that info now is to log back into NAB and use their daily trade list feature, which lists all the trades in a particular stock for the current day.

And Etrade email out contract notes with a friggin password required to open them. That's a major PITA! Plus the contract note is missing most of the form text, giving only the actual data in the fields. The contract note that can be viewed online looks right though, so I'll have to use those and manually print them to PDFs myself.

Another day, another problem with Etrade...

GP

I am too impatient to go through the hoops on e-mailed contract note, but I found way around.

In ‘TRADING’ there is ‘TRADING HISTORY’ tag and every trade has its Adobe file ‘CONTRACT NOTE NUMBER’ in second column.

Since I am logged on already it doesn’t ask me to re-type password.

As to going with one order through different price level I didn’t have a pleasure yet, but looks like total crap.
Just wander, to how many decimal points they go with average price?

Yes, that's what I meant by the online contract note.

Six, with the order I had. Not sure if it's always that though.

I'm thinking of changing everything over to someone else. Commsec maybe. Any suggestions..

Re multiple prices and quantities,I was looking at "my portfolio" today and noticed my arq and fun were duplicated in name, this was in "detailed view"
By going to "edit"I was able to see quantity, and price for ARQ,bought in 2 transactions 21-9-06.
the second lot for FUN were the spp and the quantity was there, but I had to fill in the date and price.

Scranch,

Thanks. I haven't had any purchases go through at multiple prices yet, only one sale so far.

But back onto other Etrade issues...

I had trouble for most of today trying to update a watchlist (any watchlist). Whenever I clicked on the button, I'd get that security error message which would tell me I'd been logged out - which was a load of crap, since I was still logged in fine.

Then when I got a new emailed contract note, I found they'd fixed the problem of not having the template text showing in the note. However, it still had the password, and when I tried to print it to another PDF to remove the password, the PDF printer would always give an error and not print the file! So I went back to my trading history to view the online contract note, and found the link didn't work. It would bring up another window, but not show the note inside.

After all that hassle, I rang customer support. The guy had me try all sorts of things in IE, even though I normally use Firefox, but couldn't get the online contract note to work. Couldn't get the update watchlist button to work either. Eventually tried the contract note from another computer and it worked, so gave up on my laptop.

Played around with it some more later and discovered the problem: I'd uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader a few days ago! :p: That's cause I always use the Foxit reader, and thought I didn't need Adobe any more.

So I reinstalled Adobe reader, let it install the critical updates, then half an hour and half a dozen reboots later, managed to read the online contract notes. Still couldn't get the update watchlist button to work though.

What a day, and not helped by IRN dropping nearly 8% :banghead: I'm tempted to say at least things can't get any worse, but I saw what happened when Dilbert said that... :D

Had couple of shockingly slow E*Trade days, today much faster.

I wander if it is because other traders gave up so I can enjoy extra bandwidth, or they increased bandwidth.
But why few days later they are slow again?

I managed to clock up quite a few trades with running out of funds only once, which is an improvement already.

As you say, it can only get better.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn log in!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

HSBC! Why did you sell me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I liked your little red and white triangles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You worked almost every time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comsec here I come.............

GP,
I can only run foxit.
A year back adobe stopped working on my computer.Uninsalled, reinstalled, system restore, nothing worked. Was reccommended foxit, found it faster, not much trouble to use.
My geeky foster son spent 2 hours fiddling with adobe and my computer to no avail.
I updated foxit last week.
When I can get off my backside I will be looking at comsec.
Sanford had an offer a little while ago, anyone going across from hsbc got 6 free trades.Don't know how good they are.Have got an a/c with a rebadged version(I think),never put any money in the a/c,just use it for prices,a bit of news and the ferrets comments.Maybe I should look at their fees again.
The thing I like about directshares is the direct debit/credit from my stgeorge a/c.Mostly it has been too big a change from what I was used to for my loyalty to stretch too far

Get Foxit back, it has recently been upgraded and can view the contract notes fine.
Yes, it can view contract notes okay, but it doesn't seem to work - or I haven't got my PC configured properly - for PDFs viewed inside Firefox.

I'm not sure how that file association thing works in a browser. After I uninstalled Adobe, I could still double-click a PDF file in Windows Explorer and have it open in Foxit, but when clicking on the PDF link on the Website, it would just open an empty browser window.

Cheers,
GP

I can't access my portfolio this evening. Keep getting a screen which says "check details: general network error".

I'm entering my usual user no. and password. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi,

I have been an long-term etrade customer and was recently only switched over to their "new & improved" website. However for about a week or so now after loggin on through their new website, I have been redirected back to their old website because of apparent maintainence to their new site.

Anyone else having similar problems?
