For sure. The CCP has about the same level of respect for its own citizens as it does for the rest of the world.

When you live in China, the most striking fact, at least for me, is the low value attached to an individual; while the west might have gone overboard and is ready to kill thousands to save one, in China, your value is what you bring to the "great China"..I think this is even past the CCP influence but a cultural embedded thinking. For sure.
I take a slightly more sophisticated view - Communism is an evil ideology, those that are at the forefront of it are power lusting lying sc*mbags. The most toxic manifestation today of Communism is the CCP.but I try to understand what is happening there, how people think, etc.
My own view is the most toxic is the socialism destroying the west, the Macron, Trudeau, Jacinta style, WEF merging of world corporation refusing real capitalism as comoetitive and using the communism slogan and make believe to reach world suoremacyI take a slightly more sophisticated view - Communism is an evil ideology, those that are at the forefront of it are power lusting lying sc*mbags. As for Chinese culture per se, there is too much greedy materialism and their behaviour towards animals and the environment sucks. Not a fan.
I really do prefer that people just agree with me.
Oh yeah, they're both communist alright - the ultimate big brother manifestation of it. Anything else is just what's idealised by words in a book written by a bearded jew slob who mooched off friends and never did a real job (because capitalism). Succeeded by all the intellectual effete bums who created jobs for themselves in the universities and perverted the young minds of useful idiots (like me for a while)a North Korean would disagree rightly but is North Korea communist?..I do not think so, nor is China anymore in my opinion?
My young mind luckily realised very quickly the idiocy of communism, even with a grand father unionist in the national railway and proud member of the French communist party till his death, and both parents teachers..so as here key members of the socialist party..Again, I'm sensing some demurral on your part.

Ok, you're allright then, lolMy leftist trend was washed away by the time I was old enough to vote

Musk can sleep easy on this one, as can the UkrainiansMeanwhile, another Chinese rocket has disintegrated in Low earth Orbit, and has created a large debris field
Ok, not always 100% in line with @finicky but we will agree on this one if true
Link that to the disappearance of steel stockpiles mentioned in another thread..we might be heading into fast action there not that i wish that.
Imagine the carnage for the Australian economy not to mention market and currency .as for Taipei..
Many will blame Trump.....
I do not think either, plus until Trump is in power, not a given, they can let us sink our western boat alone. This is China's golden opportunity, but I'm not sure they're ready.

Let EU and US disintegrate while gathering gold, swapping usd reserves into assets and increasing own economy while pushing the decoupling with western exports ..outch fmg rio and bhp, alp too...
I also suspect they are full on in Ukraine getting all the data and Reverse engineering on all the nato/us weapons deployed there.
This is the interest of both Russia and China, and it seems the west is all too willing to trial their latest gadget there.
I have to travel to Europe soon.
China airline (Taiwan) has good pricing but adding: Taiwan stopover, flying asia to europe and staying in Europe for 2 weeks in the coming 2 months is not fitting well with my risk management strategy .
Even if the week travelling thru France is probably the riskier....
well Noumea is under France control in august 24..hum...not so sure anymore, one of my Noumea friend and his longtime NC companion looking for job in Brisbane right now...China has been playing the long game for decades. I don't think they'll jump until they're completely ready. Their problem is that we know this and have been developing alliances in the background for a while that means if they jump they have the rest of the world against them. Will France get involved in a South China Sea event considering what they own not too far away? Noumea was a next stepping stone for the Japanese in WW2.
@finicky Hmmm if this "mate" was so entrenched with the Communist way of life I am surprised he didn't want to leave these shores and take up residence in Mao's State where he join in with the clapping and cheering hordes on demand. But then he wouldn't have had the freedom that we possess.Real Communists have no God. I had an erstwhile 'friend' who was a non intellectual communist. He was like Stalin, animalistically sniffing out where power and money was. Sported a Mao cap as a student. Visited China and came back describing the clapping welcoming crowds without a hint of questioning the authenticity. He became an official of the VSTA (Victorian Secondary Teachers Association). Well adjusted to the ways of the world and rapidly becoming corrupted. He's my model for what a commie is. He said to me once, "Everything is power" and he meant it. He meant everything is political and social power of course - he couldn't repair a machine or start a business or .. anything at all really. But he was successful. He also sneeringly referred to a neighbour as "a little Aussie battler".
