Good point, Vancouver has gone that way definitely, I was there in May and caught up with friends, they weren't happy with the mega appartments.
But it was definitely happening and Canada is importing bulk people also plus has a similar economy/demographic as us, so you might be right.
The thing is with Canada though, they have the U.S next door, we don't.
So the trade/economy dynamics is very different, but having said that, there was a very strong Asian small business presence, so maybe the Asia tie is stronger than the U.S tie?

'm expecting a huge call in this space, I don't know what it will be, but the issue is so big it has to attract some sort of action IMO.

It really is probably coming to a crossroad, do we stay as a first world country, or do we become resource based country like most other similar countries.
The old saying, selling the farm is really coming home to roost IMO.
It is really comming to head IMO, the younger generation using social media, are becoming more and more agitated.

It's actually worse, big corps exploit every loophole possible and have the money for legal fees. This style of living in the US is a mess because one entity owns so many apartments it makes it easy for acquisitions by developers to occur and then throw everyone out on the street when the land value goes up.

I keep banging on the WEF..what does the wef plan for us?
Simple, read their program :easily available:
Empty country side, destruction of family farming and very high density cities 15 min cities..no travel..no ownership: you will own nothing but be happy..
Everyone in rabbit hutches, no personal car..use shared EVs and public transport...
Forget it about your lawn, pool, shed and 2 bathroom plus houses..
Poverty and overpopulation nodes.
People can quickly forget about home ownership...the only social media complaints you see are more envy then real desire to work on a standalone house for the new generation
So all that means as a policies targets : *corporate or public high density housing for rental only,
* country towns and country side will be kept too expensive for people relocating there,
*and we will remain focused on current capital cities and population nodes
* Non stop immigration as we need to force the move
* Expect policies ensuring taxation of existing freehold detached housing, either directly or via death duties to ensure the end of it.
Slowly slowly surely. Dickens is back and freedom smashed
So will any party sell anything else to us?
Both soft right and socialists agree there.

We recently came back from a trip to Canada and I couldn't get over the massive apartment blocks surrounding the train stations, then today I noticed this headline in the Age.
It made sense, but it looked really weird when you come from Perth.

We were staying in a AirBnB on a normal streetscape 1km away from Metro Town and you would swear you were in Perth, then you see this.

But all around it is like normal suburbia, then you go to the next station on the sky train and there is more mega rise apartments.
We went for a run on the sky train to the end of the line, basically out in the sticks and this is the town centre.

Maybe that's the way we are going? It makes sense, as long as the prices, reflects the drop in amenity.

. Another few decades we will just be another high density concrete jungle. Like a modern day Eastern European block like Ukraine

actually i was thinking Mad Max in the rural areas and Judge Dredd in the big cities

i can't see us as smart as the apes when in dense populations ( where the craziest psychopath runs the show ... brutally )

not like the Ukraine , the Soviet built the building to survive substantial damage , some of ours vibrate to death from the activities in the under-ground parking ( and corner-cutting construction ) oh wait didn't we have an era of falling/exploding windows

Brisbane has treated me well in a few ways but mostly lifestyle but it certainly hasnt harmed my finances . I am not a born and bred Qlder and have lived in 3 australian cites and spent time in all of them . I will never live in a different city now although i will more than likely move to a semi country evironment in a few years . Brisbane has been a great place to live . Its made me very happy

We will be proud to call ourselves one of the most expensive countries to live on earth, and foreigners will say, "I've heard it's really expensive in Australia, but the people are really nice and the weather is great, and I think you get paid a lot".

Love to know if anyone can see a real trend bender here, but I'm afraid I just can't. Inspite of obvious asset and consumer price rises Australia is still cheap.

This guy nailed it , not many in these types of threads do . Property doomers are rarely right and even in the time they should have been right ( rising Rates ) , they werent ( yeah i know , migration ) . It's a tough gig being negative on property in Australia . I will add while net yields are near half rates i wouldnt be buying but the trend is still solid so what do you do . Sell into it ?

Brisbane has treated me well in a few ways but mostly lifestyle but it certainly hasnt harmed my finances . Brutalism certainly applies to 90's / 2000's Brisbane but not really so much today . And leftist issues are nationwide and probably more prevalent in that large city down south . For sure Perth has been isolated from much of what happens over here but it's coming your way 100% . How long since you been here ?

And as a comparison, Perth has not suffered Soviet style brutalism, but it has suffered from an Orwellian Style psychological lobotomy.

Culture in this city is absolutely sclerotic, the plebeians trained, much like a flea circus into a very confined box of behaviors and attitudes.... personal opinion.
