Leaving Australia (again)

There's also the question of whether this country can be brought back from the brink of sovietism. Given recent events, that is doubtful at this stage.

Keep us posted: your experience, frustration and raw feelings both positive and negative are great value if you can share🙏
Mate....... You wouldn't belive the stories I'd tell.

For a society that drives vehicles in complete reckless abandon their insistence on paper trails and Procedure, Their refusal, in business to ad lib and adjust to changes astounds me.

Hardly getting anything done. Chasing assigned task and trying (and in most cases failing) to do it myself to get things moving......

Almost hoping I get let go........

Yesterday Got driven to Rayong to get a 2 year Working Visa so maybe this is just the way doing business in Thailand is.

Very disappointing.
If just looking at owning a condo, is it enough in your opinion to discard the idea?

It takes research and winding up affairs here. It's not just a case of leaving but the decision is where? There is no hurry.
You'd better hurry imho:
It will be game over by the time of tge next crisis: war pandemic or serious crash.
It is amazingly time consuming to actually make a (legal) permanent or semi permanent move..not talking exoact for a couple of years.
It took me 4y to migrate to australia in the 90s with paperwork. And that was wo assets.
Right now, for example, i realised i have to renew my Australian passport: why?
I have only 2 y left on it, by the time i finish legal residency etc paperworks, it will be expired and a lot of work will need to be redone..so ..here we got, new passport..add an extra 2 months with Xmas break..and i have not started yet the actual process

LOL... It isn't great content..... I am extremely pisssed off. ........ ....... But not stressed at all. I can retire. I don't need the Job...... If I did I would be stressed.

I actually love in a TOO Thai area. But by not taking anything seriously it is quite hilarious.
Now I have my Visa I can finally open a bank account and get paid.
Putting things into perspective i have Thai relatives that have bachelor degrees in Biology that earn 1/8th what I am getting so I am very privileged.

You are such a big admirer of Trump, so...?
Visit California and NY and you believe Victoria is a far right heaven...
America as a choice was something i missed in 2000 with newborn kid
Retrospectively, i lost dozen of millions by not going, let aside exciting jobs but i would still be working, eat **** food and my son education would have been even worse than here.
Once decision is done, too late for regrets but that does not prevent me from looking ahead aside from a narrow 100km radius from 4 Australian capital cities...
The world was your oyster 😂

There's always Texas or Alabama. :)

Tennessee appeals but we don't have any real legal avenue to get permanent residency, we'd either have to find a way to play with visitor visas or dryback it. Either way doesn't offer much security so probably not an option.

I have Canadian citizenship so I it could do Canada close to the border, but that would still be living in Canada and f*** that.

I

I don't mind a bit of snow and cold.
When you just remember it, it is ok and then you spend a few weeks again then each time you get in out of the house you need to don big socks, monster shoes, a pull over a scarf a beanie and a jacket, freeze your fingers in the car, slowly warm up while defrosting, removing layer after layer then parking, putting clothes on again in the car, getting out and cross the siberia till the entrance door.remove the lot, still be frozen and wet...arrggg never again
You just went to get bread or the croissants and it was like a north pole expedition..nope, i stick to the tropics if i can😁

Yeah I get that. There are hot weather people and cold weather people. I'm one of those that starts whinging like a bitter old curmudgeon once it gets above 24 and quite happy down to -10. My old man on the other hand was unbearably miserable if it got below 18.

Happy to admit that -40 and snowdrifts above your head might start to get old very quickly though :p

Thanks....
Been about a week. now.

If I thought Australia was cumbersome and slow, Thailand takes this to another 4 levels.

Out of Pattaya and living in a basic apartment (third floor no lift) minutes from the factory.

Locals think I'm crazy, but my Thai is getting better but the day since I am away from the distractions.
Pataya and Phuket are the most expensive places to live in Thailand.

I cross posted this in the Argentina thread, it's an amazing interview (see vid notes for occasions of mistranslations etc. (eg when liberal is said it means libertarian)

Its been a bit of a struggle to even see the keyboard tonight as I got a piece of grinding stone lodged in the right eyeball this afternoon.
As luck would have the Dr I normally see, next available appointment is on Friday.
Hopefully there may be a cancellation in the next day or two
