Trump 2.0

It's all geared for conflict at the artic. We will find out as China powers on in the Antarctic. Or are we pretend they aren't mapping resources. It's a big reason Australia is in the danger zone as well.
They aren't drilling for oil etc since the treaty prohibits mineral exploration.

The treaty doesn't prohibit scientific research however and that being so, they're just doing research focusing on the geology of Antarctica, with a particular focus on the presence of hydrocarbons and metals.

That basically is exactly what the Russians officially said. Not drilling for oil, it's just scientific research - and oddly enough the research found oil. ;)

One can debate the pros and cons of these policies over the medium term, but, in the near term, the pace of change seems to have created a sense of instability. Business optimism has dropped.

Trump has really gone over the top this time.
He has suggested that he may seek a third term as president.

Apart from the fact that it is constitutionally impossible, the old bugger will be 82 at the end of his current term.
We all know what happened the last time someone of that age tried to run again!.

It's lucky he will be 82 imo.

Well I am 100% sure that he would win should this occur.
FDR had 4 terms. I think they changed it after him. Before that the presidents just left after 2 terms.

Trump would lose the election or get shot if he tried.

Came across this writer recently. Sharp and in fact offers explanation of The New Right.

Someone has posted that they have worked out how the Trump regime came to some of the odd figures in the tariff set.
Mick

DID I CRACK IT?
I think I figured out at least a chunk of the math.

It's trade deficit divided by their exports.

EU: exports 531.6, imports 333.4, deficit 198.2. 198.2/531.6 is 37, close to 39.

Israel: exports 22.2, imports 14.8, deficit 7.4. 7.4/22.2 is 33.

Maybe but at least in Europe there are serious tax targetting us products
Most hiding under green targets or safety or similar: v8, 4WD , food import forbidden due to:
Chemical growth hormones etc.
I do not say please get hormone chicken or glyphosate corn in but these edicts are purposely targeted
India has very high tariff, we do not allow american beef in Australia ..because of mad cow disease risks, etc, etc
As for China....
Tariffs might be bad but they are a necessity in unfair trading
And trading is rarely fair, even less when nany states policies and netzero craziness are in the loop

probably should put this in the economic Trump thread.
The biggest surprise is Taiwan. 32%!!! That will hurt US consumers.
