Two-way block

It seems to work perfectly well to me, and I have a lot of people blocked! I find its pretty obvious if there is content I cant see. In some circumstances the system does tell you there are posts from blocked users, I am not quite sure what the trigger for that is.

The ability to block the cookers , permas , passive aggressives , god complexed , virtue signalled victims etc etc is a great asset in all social media . I dont want to know the meaning of life , any conspiracy , personel issues , views on politics , etc etc etc . I am here for independent thinking data based chasers of alpha and not much else .

I have had my own issues with aspects of Captain Chaza's conduct and I have addressed that with him privately. I won't hesitate to do so again should I need to.

As for "nuts", well I prefer the term eccentric. Perhaps I have known too many eccentric characters, ratbags and weirdos in my life to care much if someone wants to be a pirate. Is a pirate any more of a weirdo than many of the conspiracy theorists around these days?

Captain Chaza has won the monthly competition at least a couple of times recently and has his own form of analysis which means something to him. So in my view he is here at ASF for a genuine purpose. Nothing wrong with a splash of colour here and there in life. Like everyone else at ASF he somehow found his way here and is posting away happily in his own thread and some others.

Being kind and understanding doesn't cost anything. It's tough enough getting through life. if choosing to live life as a pirate or a ship's captain (I'm not quite sure which to be honest) makes things a little easier for someone then so be it. I'm happy to let people be who they want to be as long as they can obey the rules and conduct themselves in a respectful way.

For those who think differently, block away.
Yes good post Joe B. (my bolds)..

I can't be bothered blocking anyone. If they have annoyed me or I am not interested in their views, then it is very easy to just bypass them and not waste precious time reading their input.
Though I might add, that I along with a full complement of a ship's crew are blocked by one individual. 🤣

I would like to suggest that people consider unblocking anyone they may have blocked around this time of year.
I have, not that I had many blocked, and usually I block someone just to give me a break.

I do have one repeat troller that inevitably gets put on block mostly permanently, but even he or she has been unblocked.

Hope all have a good new year.
Cheers

how good it is to read this ... lol

People who either have me blocked or I have blocked are commies anyway.

It would be fun to troll them with some brutal facts, but overall, winning. Who wants the aggravation of having to read the nonsense of the cultural vandals here.

It's absolutely losing, not winning.

The people we disagree with are the ones we most need to interact with, and if we have any conviction at all in our beliefs and views, the people we should most want to have exposure to us are the ones who disagree with us.

The existence of a two way block is a testament to how terrible society has become and how severely people have come to fail to understand how a society should function. It serves to coddle minds so fragile they can not cope with taking part in open discussion with the public, and those incapable of simply paying no undue attention to people they don't want to pay attention to.

I have blocked a total of zero people here (or across the road etc), and while there may be rare times a one-way block may be worth using (someone relentlessly inboxing you for example), a two-way block is anti community, cowardly and pathetic.

@wayneL Certainly not you Wayne, nor me or many others I would suggest.

Although I understand the decision to have this function available in the best interests of the viability of the forum. It's the way society's gone unfortunately, and fighting it isn't going to help ASF.

I haven't blocked anyone and don't intend doing so.

I have however self-imposed a ban on responding to posts on certain matters, the details of which will become apparent, effective 1 January. Reason = all things considered, I think certain matters are unresolvable discussion subjects and, given they're not directly related to trading, it's not achieving anything adding to that discussion here.

This is the sort of post that explains one of the reasons I block often and widely. Its typical of the times we live in with the internet as a major means of communication. People use ad hominem attacks to bully anyone who holds views inconsistent with their own, weaponised polarisation is everywhere on SM.

I dont want to have to read the bile so many people resort to online, pretending that this sort of weaponised polarisation is somehow open rational discussion and we should just accept it is not a compelling argument in my view.

My life is so much better for never having to read this sort of content, here and on the other platforms I engage on, I am no longer triggered by seeing hatred, bigotry, racism and misogyny. I no longer have to read people's ad hominem attacks on my points of view, all of which makes me happier and saves me time - life's most valuable resource.

This means I can spend more time having interactions with people who do have divergent views to mine - but can express them rationally and without abuse and bad faith arguments.

I believe it would be unwise to unblock people just because of the time of year.

Many of those I have blocked have severe personality disorders or are a pain in t’arse.

It would not bother me should I never hear their names mentioned again in any context.

gg

I blocked someone because he was demanding you should be kicked off website. Will unblock.

I have unblocked a couple of them in the past (at least twice) and they go back to form. No chance this time.
Maybe in the future when hell freezes over. or someone tells me they have calmed down.
